A Fool's Errand Part I
Attempting to Save "Public" Education
But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear.
For truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it. - Matthew 13:16-17
When I started out this journey to save America's children from an education I simply knew in my gut was just wrong at the core of what makes a free nation.
Six months into the rabbit hole, I realized playing whack-a-mole with both political parties, trying to unravel 80 years of horrific "education reform", apply and then force application of the Constitution's of Virginia, the United States, Federal Law and State Codes I came to the conclusion that I had been on a Fool's errand *( a newcomer is given an impossible nonsensical task by those more experienced- whether explicitly or by nature of involvement- KNOWING they will fail)- a combination of definitions from Oxford, Merriam-Webster, Cambridge and some real world application from Wikipedia.
"They" want us chasing our tails on this fool's errand- from following the money, to more money because we are “underfunded”, to higher standards, to NAEP scores, to literacy rates, to anti-CRT legistlation, to trying to create legislation (that will never pass) to notify parents of what gender their children are in GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS, to finally School Choice (as I choke). Since I began this journey less than three years ago I have always been a fifth tier issue or a root issue type of activist because for those of us with common sense remaining- everything comes from SOMEWHERE.
I was recently asked the number one problem in education and a solution and here is my answer.
The number one problem in Government education is that it is- GOVERNMENT EDUCATION and in that same breath. It is slavery and it is a compulsory conscription.
it is government created
it is a government run oligoply of the richest people and companies in the nation and in the world deciding what should be taught for the state's interest- not our children
there are tens of millions of children as a captured audience
compulsory education- you are legally required to be there
yet it is funded in the majority by our tax dollars (no taxation without representation)
the government decides what is taught and how and does not care how many decades of "reform" continue to fail children as long as their interests are served.
the government sets the requirements for what a "teacher" is and what the qualifications are (and in Virginia right now, pretty much anyone can have access to our children as "teachers" as long as they have their annual Maoist struggle session of Culturally Relevant Teaching up to date and are practicing medicine without a license in restorative practices, trauma informed care, social emotional learning and give two thumbs up to the B.F. Skinner created abhoration that has created a generation of feral children known as PBIS Positive Behavior Intervention and Support)
the government creates the standards - then blames the previous L or R Governor for dumbing them down when the standards ARE common core and thus a tier 5 issue noone talks about.
and you have the government choosing the resources (this would be textbooks, curriculum, etc in a prior life) but being that Virginia is one of the only states with no books- only Chromebooks, you then add a layer of the Vanguard in Edtech software companies, data mining, psychological profiling, the monetization of our childrens' data (76% of companies used in our government schools are doing this)
There is nothing “public” about public education. It doesn’t even makes sense if you think about it. Who is the public? There are individuals and there is the state which is run by… the government.
So as a sovereign nation of individuals who are rights holders, we must stand against and up to our duty bearers in our constitutional republic elected representative form of democratic government and declare our independence from that which is immoral and antithetical to the foundations of America at the least.
We must also - without fear- call for the abolition of Government schooling because if you look at it through the same logic as those who support "Separation of Church and State" (ignorantly most I would argue) then the argument for "Separation of School and State" is identical.
This idea seems radical to most people, but it is the only way out of this for our children and above that for our nation because in less than a decade with the education these children are receiving the ability to repeat or replicate what makes us a constitutional republic and the freest nation in the world will cease to exist and the freedoms almost every American takes for granted will be obsolete for our children and grandchildren.
There is no other way out! We must stand together with unwavering conviction in truth.
